When trying to be healthy we take care to change our diets and get in some exercise. But do you pay attention to the things you’re inhaling and putting on your body? The toxins and chemicals found in most personal care and cleaning products can be making you sick.
I have become much more aware of what is in the things that I don’t just ingest, but also the products I put on my skin and use to clean my home. Many personal care items have toxic ingredients, including parabens and phthalates, which have been shown to be hormone affecting and possibly be linked to cancer.
When I first started looking at the labels I was completely overwhelmed. Did I have to throw out everything in my house? There were ingredients on every shampoo bottle and cleaning product that I couldn’t even pronounce. After reading articles and doing my research I took a step back and decided to take small steps toward reducing these things in my home. I started replacing my shampoo with brands that don’t have parabens and sulfates and replaced my cleaning products with vinegar and baking soda.
Making these changes can be done one step at a time. You don’t have to throw out everything in your house. But each time you run out of an item, take time to read and replace products with ones that don’t have things that will harm you and your family.
As we try to take care of our bodies we need to keep in mind that food and exercise are a piece of the health puzzle. Anything we put on our skin is absorbed into our bodies along with the things we breathe into our lungs.
Just taking one step to change an item can have a positive impact on your overall health. And isn’t that what we’re all working toward?
